Staying Safe and Cosy-How to Use A Hot Water Bottle Safely
Following feedback from my supportive customers and community, I’ve launched a collection of hot water bottle covers and hot water bottles featuring my colourful fun patterns for winter and Christmas. Hot water bottles provide warmth and comfort on winter nights and provide relief for aches and pains but there are important safety rules you should follow. Here are some safety tips for filling and using your hot water bottle.
All my hot water bottles are made from natural rubber and manufactured to the specification of British Standard 1970_2012 which means they are subject to rigorous testing for durability and safety.
Top Safety Tips for Using Your Hot Water Bottle
Filling your bottle
When first using fill with cold water to check for leaks and ensure it’s in perfect condition
Before use check the bottle and stopper for any wear and damage
Never use boiling water. Boil tap water in your kettle and leave for a minimum of 10 minutes before filling.
Hold the bottle by the neck in an upright position and fill slowly to avoid hot water splashing back.
Fill to a maximum of two thirds capacity or less.
Expel air from the bottle by lowering it carefully onto a flat surface until water appears at the opening.
Screw the stopper finger tight to ensure no leakage.
Make sure there is no water left in the funnel.
Looking after your bottle
Do not fill directly from the hot tap as this can considerably shorten the life of your hot water bottle.
Prevent contact with oil and grease and hot surfaces.
When not in use, drain completely and store with the stopper removed in a cool, dry, dark place avoiding exposure to sunlight.
Do not place anything on top of the hot water bottle during storage.
Safe usage
Always use a protective cover to avoid direct contact with your skin and prevent burns. Avoid prolonged contact with the same area of skin as this can cause burns.
Never place the bottle directly against bare skin.
For children, only use under adult supervision and with cooler water.
My range of vibrant, soft covers not only protect you from heat but add a splash of colour to your home!
